Living with NF2 sucks. Really sucks. Sucks even more than a chupa chup.

Throughout my life, I’ve lived with tumours growing all around inside my body.
They grow on nerve cells, developing benign tumours in my brain, neck and spinal cord impacting on my hearing, swallowing and quality of life.

In 2007, I had surgery to remove a 4cm tumour on my brain stem. As a result, I’ve lost feeling on the left side of my face and can’t eat food on the left side.

In 2023, I had surgery to remove a tumour in my spinal cord that was causing excruciating back pain.

Just recently in July 2024, I had surgery to remove 2 brain tumours that were impacting on my speech and swallowing. As a result, I’ve lost all hearing in my left ear and have difficulty swallowing food. I'm currently still on the slow and difficult recovery.

Today, I still have 10 tumours of varying sizes in my brain and neck that we are all actively monitoring, having yearly MRIs and a constant surveillance of when something in life feels ‘off’ before we decide for surgical intervention to remove them. These tumours will continue to grow, as will new tumours throughout my body.

Although I literally just came off brain surgery a few months ago, I wanted to really push myself on the road to recovery and raise awareness of my disease at the same time. The CTF Melbourne Colour Run in November will be my first proper run event so I would love for you to help by donating to CTF above on my page to help with NF research & support, or if you really want to raise the stakes, please run alongside me by signing up to run and joining team "Mike's Magnificent Movers" :D.
