Fundraising
DO I HAVE TO FUNDRAISE?
You don’t have to fundraise, but we’d love you to, if you can! And if you do, you’ll be helping us to continue our vital support services for all people impacted by NF, including free NF helpline, resources, NF Camps and more.
where does the money go?
We're aiming to raise $200,000 in 2024, but we can't reach this goal without the help of each and every one of YOU!
We provide access to specialised knowledge and resources that is lacking or unavailable through other services.
We provide emotional support as dealing with a rare condition like NF can be isolating and overwhelming. Our programs offer the NF community a chance to connect with others who share similar experiences.
We advocate and raise awareness among the public, healthcare providers, and policymakers, ensuring that NF receives the attention and resources needed to improve health outcomes. These ongoing advocacy efforts can lead to better funding for research, improved access to treatments, and the development of policies that support those affected.
We help navigate a complex healthcare system supporting individuals and families find the right specialists, understand their rights within the healthcare system and help ensure that patients receive comprehensive, continuous support.
WHAT INCENTIVES ARE THERE FOR FUNDRAISING?
Glad you asked this one, because we’ve got some awesome incentives to inspire your fundraising.
Please note that fundraising rewards related to individual fundraising efforts only. You can unlock rewards as soon as you receive your first donation. You could make this gift yourself to kick it off.
Find out more about our fundraising rewards.
WHAT CAN I DO IF I CAN’T FUNDRAISE?
Fundraising as part of Conquer NF in Colour isn’t compulsory, so it’s absolutely fine if you want to register and come along for a good time on the day. For those who choose not to fundraise, you can still play a really important role in supporting the work of the Children’s Tumour Foundation by raising awareness of neurofibromatosis (NF) through sharing your participation in the event with family and friends.
To help you with that, we have some really cool social tiles available for you to download and share HERE.
On event day, we will be selling merchandise, raffle tickets and hosting a number of activities that you could contribute to in a way that suits your budget.
EVENT DAY
What should I wear and bring on the day
The event is messy! It's a good idea to bring a packet of wet wipes to get the excess powder off your arms and face, or a towel for the ride home.
Wear a pair of shoes that are comfortable to run in, but might need to be washed after the event. If you did not order a white branded t-shirt at the time of registration, you can pick one up on the day for $10, but consider what you'll wear on your bottom half.
Our non-toxic, environmentally friendly powder does wash out, but we can't guarantee any whites or lighter coloured clothes will come up as good as new after the event!
We will have plenty of food and drink available on the day with coffee van, ice-cream and hot food truck on hand - but it's a good idea to bring your own water as well.
We will have a secure bag drop so bring a bag if you like - a bum-bag is also a great option if you want to keep your phone on you around the course.
CAN I BRING A PRAM?
Yes, you can bring a pram as the run route in each location is paved and accessible, but please see specific location information for more information on the run routes. If you do decide to take your pram into the colour throwing area, please be aware that it will get messy.
Sydney: only prams with wide tyres will be permitted to protect the grass.
Melbourne: no restrictions
Brisbane: no restrictions
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Each site has different requirements.
Sydney: Dogs are not permitted on site, although this does not apply to any companion animals that may be required on the day. Please advise on your registration if this refers to you.
Melbourne and Brisbane: there are no restrictions on bringing your furry friend, but you will need to always keep them on a lead and be sure to pick up after them. The Children’s Tumour Foundation will not be held liable should you wish to bring your dog and do not adhere to strict instruction to keep them on their lead.
ARE SPECTATORS ALLOWED?
Spectators are encouraged to join us in the NF village and line the course to cheer on all their friends, family, and other participants. However, please ensure you do not disrupt the sports events taking place on the field.
Spectators are also welcome in the NF village and if they decide to join the run on the day, they will be a able to register and participate.
WHAT IF IT RAINS? WHAT IS THE EVENT CANCELLATION POLICY?
We will make every effort to ensure this event runs as planned. However, as this fun run will take place entirely outside, we reserve the right to change the format, postpone or cancel it in the unavoidable case of bad or extreme weather. We will contact participants by SMS and email as soon as possible, but no later than the evening prior to the event.
Due to the upfront costs of planning any event, in the case of a cancellation, tickets prices are unfortunately non-refundable.
WHAT HASHTAGS CAN I USE ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
The hashtags we use are: #conquernfincolour and #conquernf
Our handle is @ctfaustralia for Facebook and Instagram
CAN I VOLUNTEER TO HELP ON THE DAY?
Yes! We would love your help.
If you do not feel the running vibe, perhaps you could support the event in other ways. We have several roles available, including:
Course Marshals
Course marshals are placed on the extended run course and will not involve colour. Super important though, as we do not want people to get lost.
The Soakers
Douse the participants in preparation to the colour. Stand on the oval inside the Park and “water the entrants”.
Colour Artists
These volunteers literally bring colour to the event. With hundreds of kilograms of colour powder to distribute, the aim is to make every participant blue and green.
Registration and Merch
You are the welcome committee. The first point of contact for participants as they arrive or sales people selling as much merchandise as you can.
Depending on availability, as many people as possible are needed for bump in and bump out.

colour powder
IS THE COLOUR POWDER SAFE?
The colour/holi powder is made of 98% corn starch and 2% food-permitted colours. Made in India, it’s non-toxic, non-flammable, skin safe, environmentally friendly and biodegradable.
The manufacturer is an ISO 9001-2005 certified Crisil-rated company producing the highest quality product. The powder is not considered hazardous. If you would like a copy of the safety data sheet, please email fundraising@ctf.org.au
CAN WE INHALE THE COLOUR POWDER?
This is the answer. It’s a lot like breathing in dust and dirt, extensive exposure is not recommended. People with lung issues such as asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate and are advised to wear a mask.
DOES THE POWDER WASH OUT OF CLOTHES?
Although colour powder washes out very easily, we advise you wear clothes that not important or expensive. Leather and suede especially are known for easily absorbing colour powder. If you want to keep the colour in your t-shirt, spray with vinegar. However, the colour powder will wash out after several washes.
WILL THE POWDER STAIN HAIR OR SKIN?
As water will be added to the event there is a potential of staining hair, however, it will wash out over time. Scrub up!
WHAT IF COLOUR POWDER GETS IN OUR EYES?
We advise our volunteers to throw the powder at the torso, however, wind and other factors can cause the powder to spray onto the face. Don’t be concerned if it does, because the powder is non-toxic and a simple rinse with water will cleanse any powder from your eyes.
We do advise that you avoid rubbing your eyes, and wear the sunglasses provided during the event to prevent accidents.
IS THE COLOUR POWDER EASY TO CLEAN UP?
The colour powder is biodegradable and environmentally safe. It will disappear with a little water.
IS THE COLOUR POWDER NON-FLAMMABLE?
Yes, absolutely. The colour powder is certified as non-flammable.
CAN ASTHMATICS PARTICIPATE?
People with lung issues such as asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate. Parents will need to make an informed decision based on the colour powder profiles.
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO BE HIT WITH COLOUR?
Anyone who does not want to be hit with colour will be encouraged to run on the inner edge of the oval to avoid this. We will also provide red tape to be placed around your arm to alert our volunteers.

ABOUT THE CHILDREN'S TUMOUR FOUNDATION
The Children’s Tumour Foundation (CTF) is the only patient advocacy and support service for people impacted by neurofibromatosis (NF) in Australia.
The NF journey from diagnosis to treatment is challenging and most of what people will experience is unknown. The CTF provide personalised, accessible support and resources free of charge to every person impacted by NF, while also advocating for change and raising funds to advance promising research.
Our vision is a life without limitations for everyone living with NF in Australia.
WHAT IS NEUROFIBROMATOSIS(NF)?
Neurofibromatosis (NF) refers to a group of complex genetic conditions that cause tumours to form in the body, including the brain and spine. This includes neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), NF2-related schwannomatosis (NF2) and schwannomatosis (SWN).
NF can lead to a range of significant health issues such as deafness, blindness, physical differences, bone abnormalities, learning difficulties, chronic pain and in 10 per cent of cases, cancer.
NF can affect anyone regardless of ethnicity or gender, and roughly half of all cases arise in families with no history of the condition.
In terms of prevalence, it stands with other genetic conditions like cystic fibrosis, yet receives minimal funding for support and research. NF affects 1 in every 2,500 people in Australia, with millions impacted globally.
NF is unpredictable, progressive and there is no cure, but there is hope.
For more information, head to www.ctf.org.au
DOES THE CHILDREN'S TUMOUR FOUNDATION ONLY SUPPORT CHILDREN WITH NF?
NF is most often diagnosed in children, but it is a lifelong genetic condition. The Children's Tumour Foundation supports EVERYONE living with NF, including adults, children, family, friends, and carers.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
The money raised is invested into critical support services that ensures everyone impacted by NF in Australia, regardless of location, type or financial position can access balanced information and support when they need it.
Funds raised from Conquer NF in Colour will go towards sustaining a range of programs and services that address the physical, emotional and psychological impact that NF can have on a person or family.
This includes access to resources, NF camps and community days, as well as support to secure NDIS funding, personalised health kits and NF Clinical Nurse specialists in two major hospitals - one in Sydney and one in Melbourne.
To date, more than $800,000 has been invested into this position at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Westmead and Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, helping more than 400 families with complex NF access specialist teams in each state.
Thanks to fundraisers like you, this support is free.
As well as direct family support, we are committed to ensuring a better future for all people impacted by NF through advocacy and research.
ARE DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Absolutely! The Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia is a registered charity with deductible gift recipient status, so any donation of $2 or more is fully tax-deductible. Please note donations are only tax-deductible when the donation is a true gift only, and not to funds raised through fundraising activities where there is a material benefit or advantage, such as the sale of raffle tickets or merchandise. Donations in this case are not tax-deductible.
